Cat S61 launched with integrated FLIR thermal imaging camera

Cat phones announced the launch of their new flagship smartphone, the Cat S61 which has been unveiled at the Mobile World Congress 2018 in Barcelona. This device is an upgrade to the Cat S60 and will come with the enhanced FLIR thermal imaging capability and built-in laser assisted distance measuring capabilities. There is also an air quality sensor and the Cat S61 has been designed to get the most advanced jobs done from your smartphone.

The S61 from Car comes with the integrated FLIR thermal imaging camera with software that offers a greater image contrast and expanded temperature range up to 400 Celsius. There is also an upgrade from VGA to high-definition detail for the camera providing unmatched image optimization using the integrated FLIR’s MSX technology.

These new features and enhancements help allow for certain use cases where connectivity and portability are of prime importance. This allows for vehicle diagnostics, road asphalt monitoring, and high-temperature equipment monitoring using the Cat S61. The device can also be used to detect heat loss around the windows and doors while also noticing the moisture and lack of insulation. The device can help identify over-heating of electrical appliances and overloaded circuitry by detecting the temperature change and that help prevent hazards.cat s61 rear

The MyFlir application in the Cat S61 has been upgraded and the new features include an option for the live streaming of the thermal images. The Cat S61 comes with an indoor air quality sensor from Sensirion to alert the users of high air pollutant which measures the Volatile Organic Compounds in their working environment. The sensor also allows for humidity and current temperature readings. The Car S61 comes with a laser-assisted distance measurement which can help measure the distance between two points up to 10m and then use this data to calculate the area. There is an option to switch between the Metric and Imperial measurement and all this data is stored within the image so estimates can be taken and adjustments are made without having to remeasure the site.

The Cat S61 comes with a 5.2-inch FullHD screen protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and is optimized for outdoor usage. The device comes with an IP68 rating for dustproof and waterproof up to 3m for an hour. The device confirms with the MIL Spec 810 G and is designed and built to survive the repeated drops on concrete from a height of 1.8m.

Peter Stephens, CEO Bullitt Group, global mobile device licensee for Caterpillar, said:

“We know that 60% of Cat S60 customers use the integrated thermal camera at least once per week and the temperature and resolution improvements found in the new Cat S61 will open up thermal imaging to many more users and use cases. Packing in even more genuinely useful tools of the trade means there’s simply no other smartphone out there that can do everything the S61 can. We are incredibly proud of it.”

The Cat S61 will be available in the second quarter with an MSRP of €899 / £799 / $999 on the company website and selected retailers across the world.
