Samsung may officially sell refurbished Galaxy Note 7 in India and Vietnam

According to industry sources, Samsung may start to sell reconditioned Galaxy Note 7 in 2017. The news comes from South Korea’s reputed press agency – The Korea Herald. It claims that although Samsung hasn’t yet officially confirmed the information, there is a good amount of possibility that the company will sell refurbished units of its flagship phablet in the next year. The renewed smartphones shall be available for purchase through official channels itself.

The Galaxy Note 7 massacre is undoubtedly one of the most tragic incidents in the entire mobile industry. Samsung had to recall the whole lot of more than 2.5 million devices worldwide due to the catastrophic report of accidents. Initially, the company presumed this to be some battery issue and started to provide replacement with refreshed units. But unfortunately, those too suffered the same fate leading to scraping of the entire line-up.

Now, it is being speculated that Samsung may have found the root of the cause. So, the company thinks it is unreasonable to dump all the returned smartphone. Instead, it would be much better if those can be recycled. Thus the Korean technology giant aims to sell the refurbished Galaxy Note 7s for a discounted price. It is quite natural for the company to target emerging smartphone markets, where demand is always high, and most of the sales occur in the lower end and midrange sections.

This will surely be a welcome step if Samsung has truly managed to cure the issue. Recycling is always beneficial to the environment. It will also help the company to recover some of the loss incurred due to the recall of the Galaxy Note 7. The buyers will also gain as they will be getting a flagship device for a lot less amount. Although as Samsung will itself sell the phones, there may not be significant price rebate and stocks shall be limited too.

As with any official refurbished product, the renewed Galaxy Note 7 will almost certainly come with official manufacturer’s warranty, and there shall be strict quality control. Just a small recap of the specification of Samsung’s best phablet, it sports a dual curved Gorilla Glass 5 covered Super AMOLED display with QHD resolution. Inside, there is a Snapdragon 820 bundled with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. Talking about the camera, the Note 7 sports a 12 MP primary snapper and a 5 MP selfie shooter.
