Apple has updated the iMac series in India with the introduction of a 21.5-inch iMac with Retina 4K display. Even the 27-inch iMac also will be getting a Retina 5K display. Along with the iMac’s Apple has also announced a few other wireless accessories – Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse 2 and Magic Trackpad 2. With the Magic Trackpad 2 Apple has introduced Apple’s Force Touch interface to its desktop devices.
Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said:
“From the first iMac to today, the spirit of iMac has never wavered — deliver the ultimate desktop experience with the latest technologies, gorgeous displays and cutting-edge designs,” he added, “These are the most stunning iMacs we’ve ever made. With our gorgeous new Retina displays, more powerful processors and graphics and all-new Magic accessories, the new iMac continues to redefine the ultimate desktop experience.”
The iMac with Retina 4K display comes with a 21.5-inch LED-backlit IPS display having 9.4 million pixels which when compared to the standard 21.5-inch iMac has 4.5 times more pixels. The processor segment has also been upgraded with a 3.1GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor which can be boosted up to 3.6GHz, it is supported by 8GB 1867MHz LPDDR3 RAM which can be upgraded up to 16GB of RAM. It comes with Iris Pro Graphics 6200 and 1TB hard drive. The new Retina 4K and 5K displays feature a wider P3-based color gamut that provides a 25 percent larger color space.
This is a decent upgrade compared to the standard 21.5-inch iMac model which has a 1.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor (Turbo Boost up to 2.7GHz) with Intel HD Graphics 6000 and 1TB of hard drive. The 21.5-inch iMac model with Retina display can be upgraded to 2TB and 3TB configuration along with 128GB fast flash. The 21.5-inch iMac with Retina 4K display comes with Two Thunderbolt 2 ports which are now a standard and come with 20Gbps data transfer speeds for external drives and high-performance peripherals. It comes with connectivity features like three stream 802.11ac Wi-Fi allows iMac to support up to 1.3Gbps wireless networking.
Apple has priced the 21.5-inch iMac with a Retina 4K display starting at Rs. 1,23,900 and will be available through select Apple Authorized Re-sellers in India. The standard 21.5-inch iMac is priced at Rs. 91,900 and Rs. 107,900 for the two variants available. Apple has stopped the non-Retina 27-inch iMacs and is now there will be only 5K display which is available in tree models priced at Rs. 148,900, Rs. 164,900, Rs. 188,900, respectively.
