Lenovo launches ThinkPad 2018 series laptops in India, with T, X and L Series

Lenovo India has launched several laptops under the ThinkPad series, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon and X1 Yoga, ThinkPad X280, ThinkPad L380, and the ThinkPad T480 laptops today, in New Delhi. All the three laptops are powered by 8th Gen Intel Core i7 processors with vPro technology and 2×2 dual band 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, M.2 slot for connectivity.

The X280 and T480 laptops feature a sliding physical shutter called the ThinkShutter for people who are concerned about their privacy. Depending on your configuration the laptop either comes with/without the ThinkShutter.

ThinkPad X1 Carbon and X1 Yoga

The X1 series laptops are world’s first laptops announced to support Dolby Vision HDR and an exceptionally bright display supporting up to 500 NITS peak brightness. They feature Glance eye tracking with the IR camera offers heightened productivity and security, and the X1 Carbon is the world’s lightest 14-inch commercial laptop with a virtually unbreakable chassis built using advanced carbon fibre composite. The X1 Yoga is world’s only convertible with integrated pen and Global LTE-A capability.

The ThinkPad X280 comes in 12.5” HD TN panel/ FHD (1920×1080) IPS panel/ FHD (1920×1080) IPS touchscreen options. The laptop supports up to 16 GB DDR4 2400 MHz RAM, while the storage can be configured up to 1 TB PCIe SSD, (although it’s still unknown whether it supports NVMe drives or not) For graphics the X280 uses the Intel UHD 620 integrated graphics. The X280 features a 720p HD camera with an IR camera with/without ThinkShutter.

The X280 comes with an Integrated Mobile Broadband LTE-A support. For connectivity, the laptop features 2 USB 3.0 ports, 1 USB Type-C port, 1 Intel Thunderbolt 3 port, 1 HDMI port, 1 Ethernet port and a Headphone/microphone combo jack. The laptop also comes with a Dolby Premium Audio.

For added security and privacy the ThinkPad X280 features a fingerprint reader, an IR facial recognition camera which probably supports Windows Hello, a dTPM 2.0 chip, a Kensington lock slot. The laptop weighs 1.13 Kgs for FHD non touch model, 1.26 Kgs for the HD non touch model and 1.27 Kgs FHD touch model. The laptop is said to last up to 16.6 hours, which supports RapidCharge.

ThinkPad L380 Yoga

The ThinkPad L380 Yoga features a 13.3” FullHD (1920×1080) IPS LCD touchscreen display, with a Antiglare coating on top. The laptop supports up to 32 GB of DDR4 2400 MHz RAM, in its 2 DIMM slots. The storage on the L380 can be configured up to 512 GB of PCIe SSD. The graphics are handled by Intel UHD 620 integrated graphics. The laptop comes with an IR camera for Windows Hello, while a HD camera is placed on the keyboard which the company likes to call World-facing Camera.

As it’s a Yoga model, the hinge can be turned 360 degrees and make use of the World facing camera, to capture photos and videos in the tablet and tent mode. The new World facing camera is specifically designed for education and small business such as construction, where the camera would be put to proper use.

For connectivity, the ThinPad L380 has 2 USB 3.0 Type-C ports, 3 USB 3.0 ports, 1 HDMI 1.4 port, 1 mini Ethernet port and a 4-1 Micro SD card reader. The L380 also comes with 2x2W speakers that are Lync certified and also feature a dual-array mic. The laptop packs in a 45 W battery and supports RapidCharge using a Type-C 65 W adapter. The battery life of the laptop is said to be 12 hours. The laptop also features a Military spec durability and weighs in 1.56 Kgs.

ThinkPad T480

The ThinkPad T480 features a 14” HD TN/ FHD (1920×1080) IPS non-touch panel/ FHD (1920×1080) IPS touch panel/ WQHD IPS panel options. The laptop supports up to 32 GB of DDR4 RAM through the 2 DIMM slots. The laptop comes with either 256 GB OPAL2 SSD or 1TB OPAL2 M.2 SSD, with an additional hard drive up to 1 TB of storage. The laptop packs either the Intel integrated graphics or the NVIDIA MX150 2 GB GDDR5 VRAM. It comes with a 720p camera along with an IR camera with/without ThinkShutter on top.

For connectivity the T480 comes with 1 thunderbolt 3 port, 1 USB C port, 2 USB 3.0 ports. 1 HDMI port, 1 Nano SIM slot, an Ethernet port and a headphone/microphone combo port. The laptop also features Integrated Global Mobile Broadband LTE-A using the Nano SIM slot. The laptop come with dual 24 Wh batteries that are said to last up to 14.5 hours. The laptop comes with Dolby Premium Audio.

For added security and privacy the ThinkPad T480 feature a fingerprint reader, an IR facial recognition camera which supports login through Windows Hello, a dTPM 2.0 chip, a Kensington lock slot and a ThinkShutter. The laptop’s weight starts from 1.58 Kgs.
