While announcing that the Jio family is now 72 million strong, Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of the company announced that the Jio Prime subscription last date that was set at 31st March 2017 is now extended and you can now recharge your number with Rs. 99 to get the Jio Prime subscription anytime till April 15th.
But that wasn’t the surprise. The bigger surprise is what Jio calls “Summer Surprise” under which you can enjoy three more months of free data and calls as you have been doing under the Happy New Year offer, but there’s only condition for the same. Firstly, it is for the Jio Prime users and here’s how you can avail the benefits of free Summer surprise.
- Jio Prime recharge is a must, i.e. Rs. 99 recharge, so that you become a Jio Prime member.
- Now, to get the Jio Summer Surprise benefit, you need to recharge your Jio number with Rs. 303 or higher based on how you want it later.
- Once you recharge the number, even though you paid for it, the services won’t begin already. From April to July, the free benefits will be given, if you have recharged your Jio number with Rs. 303 or higher.
- The paid service will start after the free one ends in July and the validity of the Rs. 303 or higher recharge will begin from the month of July.
So, even if you were a Jio Prime member already and have done the Rs. 303 recharge, you are going to get the benefits of Summer offer and the paid service for you will start from July. This leaves no reason why you should not update your Jio number with the Prime membership.
If I recharge on April 15th, will I keep getting the free benefits till that date?
Services will be on till that date. That’s what one of the Jio officials have confirmed after we reached out to them with the question. As of now, we are able to access the Internet and download even apps and send messages, but the MyJio app says that you are not subscribed to any plan. Jio’s Happy New Year offer has officially ended, and this is just the extension for a few days during which you need to recharge.
To get you onboard with the Jio Prime, you are going to get the free data extension till 15th April, so you can do the recharge during this time to start getting the Summer Surprise offer.
I have taken the Prime subscription and have done the Rs. 149 recharge. Will I be able to get the Summer Surprise offer if I now recharge with Rs. 303 plan or higher?
Yes, you just need to recharge with that plan and you will be eligible to get this Summer surprise offer. It is still a confusion about what will happen to the Rs. 149 recharge that you did, but would you really care about it when everything is going to be free for the next three months?
Every JIO PRIME member, when they make their first paid recharge prior to 15th April using Jio’s Rs 303 plan (or any higher value plan), will get services for the initial 3 months on a complimentary basis. The paid tariff plan will be applied only in July, after the expiry of the complimentary service. The Jio Summer Surprise is the first of many surprises for JIO PRIME members.
These above words clearly mention that whenever the first paid recharge is done, the free offer begins. That means if you are opting for a bigger plan, i.e. something like 2GB per day plan, you will get the same service for free for the next three months from the same day.
So, if I still wait till 15th and do the recharge on the last day, i.e. April 15th, will I be able to get the Summer benefits from that same day?
Yes, that is how it is. But, let’s not be so greedy and risk it. If the recharges fail like many of them are doing in the past couple of days, you might get nothing out of it. It is better to recharge as soon as you can and start getting the Jio Prime offer benefits.
What about Happy Hours? Unlimited download during 2-5 a.m.?
As it was said before, Jio Prime plans don’t include Happy Hours. And since you are getting the Prime plan for free for the next three months, there will be no happy hours and thus you cannot download unlimited data from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m.
