Gionee Marathon M5 Plus with 5020mAh battery and Fingerprint Sensor launched

Gionee has officially launched a new variant of the Marathon M5 called the Marathon M5 Plus with a Fingerprint sensor and 6-inch Display. The Marathon M5 was launched in November in India which was first announced in June 2015. The Marathon M5 Plus with the said specs has been launched in China and the device will be coming with difference specifications in India according to Gionee.

The Marathon M5 Plus sports a slightly smaller 5020mAh battery compared to the 6020mAh battery in the Marathon M5. Gionee claims that the battery has been optimised to compensate the drop in battery capacity over time, it claims that the battery will retain 90 percent of its capacity which is approximately 4500mAh after 600 charging cycles which will be approximately 2 years.

Gionee Marathon M5 Plus

The Gionee Marathon M5 Plus sports a 6-inch AMOLED display with full HD resolution along with 2.5D glass and Gorilla Glass protection over it. It is powered by a 64-bit 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6753 octa-core processor coupled with 3GB of rAM and 64GB internal storage space which is expandable using microSD card. Even with a massive 5020mAh battery the device is kept slim at just 8.4mm in thickness and not much of bulk is seen or felt while holding it as well weighing just 208 grams in weight.

Another major feature added is the Fingerprint sensor which has been added to the Home button, making it the first Gionee device with a fingerprint sensor in the home button. The battery comes with Dual Charging chips that make the massive battery charge faster which was first seen in Vivo X6 and X6 Plus. The Gionee Marathon M5 Plus sports a a 13MP rear camera with LED Flash and PDAF along with a 5MP front facing camera for selfies.

The device runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop with Gionee Amigo 3.1 UI over it. It comes with Amigo features like AmiClone which comes with some additional apps like Ami Locker, Gionee Mailbox (which can be logged-in with one click using the fingerprint sensor), Child Clone etc. It has the following connectivity features like VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS/A-GPS and Type-C USB 2.0 port.

The Marathon M5 Plus has been launched at a price 2,499 Yuan (approx $385 / Rs. 25,500) and will be available starting from December 25th which is Christmas day starting in China. The pricing and official release date in India has not been revealed yet.
