Oppo F9 with 6.3-inch display, Helio P60 SOC, VOOC charge support announced

After multiple leaks and teasing, Oppo has finally launched the Oppo F9, today in Malaysia. The new smartphone from Oppo comes as a successor to the March launched Oppo F7. Apart from Malaysia, the phone was also launched in other Southeast Asian countries such as Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, at the same time. The company has said that the will be available in Middle Eastern markets such as Egypt & Morocco, as well. Oppo will later launch the F9 in India dubbed as F9 Pro, on August 21, 2018.

The Oppo F9 sports a 6.3-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 2340×1080 pixels. The screen has a 19.5:9 display, thanks to the new waterdrop-like notch. Powering the smartphone is the Helio P60 chipset from MediaTek, with Mali G72 MP3 GPU. It comes with either 4 GB or 6 GB of RAM and with 64 GB of expandable storage, up to 256 GB. The phone runs on Color OS 5.2 based on top of Android 8.1 Oreo.

As for the cameras, the Oppo F9 is the first F-series phone from Oppo to feature a dual camera setup on the back. The primary shooter uses a 16 MP F/1.9 unit, while the secondary depth-sensing camera has a 2 MP snapper. To the front, the phone greets you with a massive 25 MP sensor, which sits behind the f/2.0 lens. The phone comes with AI Beauty technology for selfies.

The battery underneath is a 3500 mAh affair with Oppo’s VOOC fast charging, which is said to provide up to 2 hours of talk-time with a 5-minute charge. The phone has support 4G VoLTE, 802.11 ac Dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2 LE & GPS.

It comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner as well as AI face unlock feature, for secured access. The phone weighs 169 gms and is 7.99 mm thick.

Pricing and Availability of Oppo F9

The Oppo F9 comes in three color options – Starry Purple, Sunrise Red & Twilight Blue. The pricing of the phone in Philippines is PHP 17,990, which roughly translates to INR 23,706. The pricing and availability of the smartphone in other Southeast Asian and Middle Eastern markets are still unknown.
