How to Use Windows Remote Desktop on iOS, Mac & Android

With the help of Microsoft Windows Remote Desktop, you can connect to your Windows computer from another computer using Internet. Most of us have multiple gadgets and computer in our home and offices, but sometimes it gets hard to manage our home and office computers. When it comes to this situation, managing computers remotely is a better idea. For example, you can use your office computer remotely to access and maintain your work. It’s like you are sitting in front of your computer at work.

While Windows does have remote desktop connection feature but since a long time, it was only possible to use this between two Windows computers only. Now it is possible to use your Windows machine remotely through your MAC, iOS or Android devices.

Preparing your Windows computer for remote connection

To start a remote desktop connection, you have to use a static IP for your Windows powered machine. It is necessary to use a static IP because every time you boot-up your computer, Windows assign an IP address means every boot-up computer have different IP. To assign a static IP, follow the bellow steps:-

  • Go to Control Panel
  • Then head over to Network and Sharing Center Settings
  • Choose your desired Network Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection.

  • Click on the network and note down find IPv4 address, subnet mask, DNS server, default gateway from Details option.

  • Go to the properties and click on the IPv4 properties.

  • Note down the IPv4 address shown here in this window and note it down. Now that we have all the required details, let us move on to connecting to this PC.

Remote Desktop Connection between Windows Computer

Step 1: Setting up

To create a remote desktop connection between two Windows computer you don’t have to use any other third party software. Windows has inbuilt feature that provides a remote connection between Windows computer.

Check the procedure section below to know easiest way to create remote connection on Windows 10.

  • Open the start menu  .
  • Now type “Allow remote access to your computer” and hit enter.

  • Here, you’ll see the system properties, just go to Remote tab.

  • Now check the “Allow Remote Assistance Connections To This Computer” & “Allow remote connections to the computer.

Windows Remote Desktop Connection from different Windows

You have set up the remote connection on your Windows computer. To connect to another Windows computer, go to the search option. Type “Remote Desktop Connection” and press enter. Enter the static IP that you have created earlier and press Connect. Further, you’ll be asked for login details of the computer that you want to operate remotely.

Windows Remote Desktop Connection from Mac OS X

To create a remote desktop connection on MAC for Windows computer download this app from the App Store. Open the app and create a new connection. Enter all the required details and save. Now the connection will show on home screen of the app.

Windows Remote Desktop Connection to iOS

Install this app on your iOS device and move on to next steps.

Click on the “+” button and select Add PC to create a remote connection. Input PC Name, static IP Address that you created earlier. Input username and password. Save the settings and you’ll see the remote connection on app’s home.

Windows Remote Desktop Connection to Android

There is an Android app for Remote Desktop so you need to install it before moving any further. Creating a remote connection on Android is similar to iOS process. Press the “+” button and input PC Name, IP Address, scroll down to input username and password. Save the settings and start the remote connection.
