Maruti to launch 18 new vehicles in Auto Expo 2018, including 2018 Swift Sport

Companies always take the Auto Expo as an opportunity to launch their new cars. However, this year, Maruti is going a long way and the automaker has officially announced that the company will be launching as many as 18 cars and adding them to their portfolio this Auto Expo 2018. The company will have a 4200 Sq. mt area with the theme of transformation where the cars will be put on exhibit for people to come, see and check out.

There are a few concept cars in the list of cars being launched and may never make their way to the production. However, there are at least four cars that Maruti is launching and planning to make available to the public in the near future.

Along with the new launches, some of which are futuristic electric cars, the company is also updating their portfolio with newer versions of their existing cars. Some of the cars planned by the company for the Auto Expo 2018 are detailed below.

Future S

Maruti Future S

Till recent times, Maruti stressed on the Vitara Brezza as their compact SUV and the company is now planning to introduce a new compact SUV at the Auto Expo below the Vitara Brezza segment. The new car is still in concept stage and will be called Future S, this car is marginally shorter than the Vitara Brezza and is expected to be powered by the HEARTECT platform based on either a 1.2-litre Petrol or a 1.5-litre diesel engine.

e-Survivor

This car was already revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show last year and is based on the Jimny while being slightly wider. The e-Survivor will be powered by four electric motors making it a four-wheel drive for optimum delivery of torque and making it usable on any kind of terrain. The cabin also features a futuristic display that shows the surrounding and the car has some of the most advanced techs that provides it with information on the surroundings. This car will demonstrate the company’s new F.A.C.E which stands for Four Wheel Drive Autonomous Connected Electric.

The New Swift

The new Swift Dzire that was launched a few months was a major hit and it was evident that the company will be updating its hatchback, the Swift. The new Swift has been officially unveiled in India and it will be launched at the Auto Expo 2018. The Swift gets the same engine as the previous generation but has a lighter body frame which results in the car performing better while being more fuel efficient. The All-new Swift comes with LED projector headlamps and has a touchscreen infotainment in the larger cabin. Also, the new Swift will be coming with AMT transmission option.

Swift Sport

Similar to other companies, Maruti has chosen to experiment by launching a sports edition of an already successful car. The Swift Sports edition will launch after the launch of Swift and the hot hatch is supposed to come with a 1.4 L turbocharged engine that is supposed to produce a whopping 138 brake horsepower along with 230 Nm of peak torque. The new Swift Sport will also come with a new body kit with a modified splitter, new side skirts, and redesigned alloy wheels.

New Ciaz

The Ciaz facelift was due a long time, the new Ciaz from Maruti will be showcased in the Auto Expo and has already been caught testing in India with new bumpers and an overall newer design. The new Ciaz will be competing with the likes of the new Honda City and the updated Verna, the Ciaz is expected to launch with a new 1.5 L petrol and 1.5 L diesel variant that is currently being developed by Maruti.

New Ertiga

Maruti Ertiga was yet another major hit from the company and was advertised as a LUV, the company is said to be working on a new model based on the Ertiga and is codenamed as YHB. The new car will be a more rugged version of Ertiga and will offer a seating capacity of 7. While most of the internals are expected to remain same, the outer look is expected to be completely modified for a better experience and the car will be put o show during the Auto Expo.

S-Cross Petrol Variant

Maruti launched an updated variant of the S-Cross last year and while the India market only got the 1.3 L diesel powered S-Cross, Maruti manufactures the S-Cross in its Indian plant for export to other markets including Indonesia. This Auto Expo, Maruti will be launching the Petrol variant of S-Cross in India and 1.5 L engine is expected to produce 108 BHP.

New updated Alto

The entry-level car of Maruti is getting an upgrade this 2018 Auto Expo, the next few years will see a massive change in the car industry in India as the safety rules have got stricter. The popular hatchback, Alto will be a step ahead in the direction of the new Alto in 2019 which will implement BNVSAP and will be showcased in the Auto Expo. BNVSAP stands for Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program which is a noble initiative by the government to maximize safety. The car will be powered by a 660cc engine and will come with AMP option. The car is said to produce 51BHP and has a torque of 63Nm.

Apart from these cars, Maruti is thinking big in terms of clean energy with hybrids and electric vehicles. The company is expected to launch their electric vehicles and bring them to market by 2020, the SHVS technology that is currently found in the Ciaz and Ertiga might also find its way to the smaller cars including Swift.
