Reliance JioFiber broadband begins testing in Chennai, sending invites

Whatever Reliance is set to offer currently, it is sure going to make a buzz. The recent one from the company is its broadband service that is yet to officially launch, and we are yet to hear anything from Reliance officially, but that was the case even with its Jio 4G services, that were being rolled out for testing to the employees first, and then to select smartphone users, much before Jio got officially launched on September 1st, 2016.

The broadband service from Reliance is called JioFiber and it might soon be available to the users and this comes as a thought after we got to know through one of the gadget discussion groups on Facebook that Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. has started sending invitations to housing societies in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

The invite that reads “At Jio we are really excited about introducing this amazing service and making your Society one of the first in India to Go Digital with our Ultra-Fast Broadband service.” asks users to try out the broadband service that will initially be free, just like how the Jio Welcome Offer is working, and it should be a 100 Mbps speed at which the test will be done.

The Reliance Jio Fiber, also called as GigaFiber thanks to the speeds achieved up to 1Gbps, isn’t going to be just about broadband service though. Even the Jio 4G service was not about just the mobile network but a suite of applications offering premium services of entertainment. That should be the case with even the JioFiber broadband where the company is said to be offering some features like making video calls from TVs, watching Ultra HD movies, downloading songs, etc. and more things are planned for the future.

While the Jio mobile network is facing a flak from the potential customers who are enjoying the benefits of Welcome Offer for its poor customer service, the company has mentioned that the users will get access to 24×7 customer care and self-help service.

The invitation also carries a comparison between a standard 1Mbps network and the Jio Ultra-Fast Broadband service at 100Mbps, which also indicates that the try-out service is going to be available at 100 Mbps right now. It also mentions that there will be a lot of ducting and cable placement done but if the user wishes to get the services at the earliest, the connection of the entire building can be done aerially.

The attached picture above should give you a good idea of what is being offered in the invitation offer of JioFiber services, and while the Adayar locality is the first to get it, other places in Chennai might also be getting these invitations but we haven’t heard of anything from the other cities.
