Gionee Elife S5.1 vs Gionee Elife S5.1 Pro Comparison

Gionee has launched a new variant of the Gionee Elife S5.1 which was launched last year touted as the slimmest smartphone in the market competing with the likes of Oppo R5 for the title. The new variant is called Gionee Elife S5.1 Pro which is not competing with the earlier model in terms of the thickness but we can see an increase in the performance of the device.

Let us see how both the siblings fare against each other in comparison. We will be looking at each segment in detail and see how well Gionee has upgraded the new variant.

Gionee Elife S5.1 Pro

Display:

The Gionee Elife S5.1 had a 4.8-inch HD display which has been upgraded in the Elife S5.1 Pro which sports a 5-inch HD display. The pixel density of the S5.1 is at 306ppi which is slightly decreased in the S5.1 Pro to 294ppi because of the increase in the display size to 5-inch. The difference will be negligible and the increase size has also increased the thickness of the device from 5.2mm to 6.4mm.

Processor and RAM:

The Elife S5.1 Pro has got an upgraded 1.3 GHz Octa-core Mediatek MT6753 processor with Cortex-A53 compared to the 1.7 GHz Octa-Core MediaTek MT6592 processor with Cortex-A7. The clocking speed has been decreased in the new variant but the higher powered processor will be enough to show the difference. The RAM has also been upgraded to 2GB in comparison to the 1GB RAM in its younger sibling the Elife S5.1.

Camera:

There has been an decent upgrade in the camera section, with the new Elife S5.1 Pro sporting a 13MP rear camera and a 8MP front facing shooter in comparison to the 8MP rear camera with 5MP front facing shooter in the Elife S5.1. The camera was decent on the Elife S5.1 but not that great to stand out, and with the upgrade the camera output might have been improved further which will be updated after we review the unit.

Battery:

The Elife S5.1 Pro comes with an improved 2400mAh batter which is an upgrade from the 2050mAh battery in the S5.1. This increase in the battery capacity can be seen in the size of the device which has gone up from 5.2mm in thickness to 6.4mm. The talk time and standby time will be greatly increased as the display size is still a HD display.

Other features:

The Storage space is the same at 16GB but there has been an addition of using a microSD card to add up to 128GB of storage space in the new variant which was absent in the earlier model. The Elife S5.1 Pro comes with 4G LTE connectivity feature which was absent in the Elife S5.1, with the increase in 4G spectrum in India this is a welcomes move by the company.

Conclusion:

The pricing of the Elife S5.1 Pro has not yet been revealed, but with the Elife S5.1 priced around Rs. 14,000 we can expect its elder sibling to be priced slightly more. The display size has been increased by 0.2-inches which does not make much of a difference in appearance. But the increase in thickness of the device from an impressive 5.2mm to a very normal looking 6.4mm is not a great improvement making it just another smartphone in the market. The processor has been upgraded along with double the RAM capacity. A microSD card slot option has been included which was absent in the Elife S5.1. The camera also has been improved considerably in comparison to its younger sibling the Elife S5.1 which and 8MP and 5MP cameras.

Overall it is a decent upgrade if you are not looking at the thickness and the sleek design of the Elife S5.1 but love the design and looking for a  Gionee smartphone. But at the price range there are a lot better smartphones in the market with better specifications compared to the S5.1 Pro. The Elife S5.1 was known for its sleek 5.1 mm thickness which is not present in the new Pro variant.
