Oppo R17 with 6.4-inch display, in-display fingerprint scanner launched in China

Oppo has finally launched their latest smartphone, the Oppo R17, today, in China. The new phone comes as a successor to the Oppo R15. The company had officially confirmed the phone’s launch and specifications on their official website, a week ago. While most of the specs were revealed through the official listing on their website before the launch, the company did keep a couple of things of things private, which includes the rear-facing cameras and the price of the smartphone.

As we already know that the Oppo R17 is the first smartphone to be powered by the latest Snapdragon 670 chipset, however, the R17 is also the first smartphone to use Corning’s latest Gorilla Glass 6 protection for the waterdrop-like notched display, which has a 91.5% screen-to-body ratio.

The Oppo R17 has dual rear cameras, with a 16 MP primary camera with f/1.8 aperture and a secondary 5 MP camera which captures depth information for portraits.

Pricing & Availability

Priced at CNY 3499 (USD 508/ INR 35,493), the phone is set to go on sale from August 30 on JD.com, Lynx, and Suning, as well as the official Oppo Online store, where the phone is already available for pre-order.

Oppo has quietly listed their latest smartphone, the Oppo R17, today, on the Chinese official online shop. While full specifications and price of the phone aren’t unveiled in the listing, Oppo has mentioned that the rest of the specifications and price will be revealed on August 18th, 2018, during the launch event.

The Oppo R17 sports a 6.4″ AMOLED screen with a Full HD+ resolution which is 2280×1080 pixels. The display has a new teardrop-like notch on the top, which is significantly smaller than the past Oppo phones. Powering the smartphone is the recently launched Snapdragon 670 chipset, built on the power efficient 10 nm manufacturing process, along with Adreno 615 GPU. It comes with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. The phone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with Oppo’s custom Color OS 5.2 on top.

In the camera department, the company has revealed only the front-facing camera’s details, which includes a 25 MP selfie camera which uses a Sony IMX576 sensor with a f/2.0 aperture. It is powered by AI and uses Oppo’s Selfie Master technology, which can detect up to 800 scenes.

The Oppo R17 packs in a 3500 mAh battery which comes with VOOC charge support. With just 5 mins of charge, the phone is said to offer up to 2 hours of talk time, similar to the yet to be launched Oppo F9 Pro.

As for the connectivity options, the phone comes with 4G VoLTE, Dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5, GPS, GLONASS.

For security, the phone comes with an in-display fingerprint scanner that uses a 2mm x 2mm sensor which has a 3P microlens on top, which unlocks the smartphone in just 0.41 secs, claimed the company.

Pricing and Availability of Oppo R17

The Oppo R17 will come in Steamer Blue and Neon Purple, both of which have a color gradient similar to the Honor and Huawei phones. The pricing of the phone isn’t revealed yet and will be announced on the launch day, i.e., August 18, at 10:00 AM.
