Google Play Store Error 495

How to Fix Play Store Error 495 while Downloading Apps

Google Play Store is where you can download Android apps by using your Google account. In most of the phones, the Google Play Store comes installed by default and is the main source, but not the only one, to download and install Android apps. And just like any other app or feature, it is not perfect and sometimes shows errors that would annoy the users. Do you know about Error 495?

One of the common errors seen on the Google Play Store is the Error 495 that is seen while downloading apps on the Play Store. It is usually seen when one of the connectivity options is not able to download the app. Such is a case where you can download the app easily when connected with data network but you cannot when connected to a Wi-Fi network. The Wi-Fi connectivity is all good and running but it is only the Play Store where it isn’t working.

Possible Fixes for Error 495

1. Clearing Cache in Play Store

Since this is an issue with the connectivity, it could be the cache that is staying there and thus, clearing the cache would solve the issue for most. Here’s how to do that.

Google Play Store Data Cache Clear

Go to Settings > Apps > Google Play Store to open the section of settings for the Play Store. Here, you’ll see the options for clearing the App Cache and App Data.

Hit “Clear Data” and “Clear Cache” buttons and close the Play Store app. Re-open the app, and if you want to assure yourself, restart the phone before opening the Play Store and downloading the app.

You might now be able to download the apps.

2. Clear Data for Google Play Services

This is the step to be done if the Play Store data and cache clearing didn’t help yet. Just like how you cleared data and cache for Play Store, you need to go to Settings and do the same for Google Play Services.

Google Play Services clear

If that didn’t work, we are sure the next one solves the purpose but it is not always easy to remove and add accounts, so the first two steps above are the ones you should try before going with the third one.

3. Remove and Add back Google account

This is the third and most working solution usually for the Error 495, because we’ve seen loads of users reporting this tip to work when the first two didn’t. You have to go to Account settings and remove the associated Google account using which you are trying to download the app on Play Store.

Remove Google Account

Go to Settings > Accounts > select the account you want to remove, and then tap on the Dropdown Icon on top right, select “Remove Account”. Confirm the same and it will remove the account.

Go back to Account Settings and add the same account back or another one. Now try to open Play Store and download the app.

4. Enable background data for apps

You might have disabled the background data for a few apps that might have been eating your data even when you aren’t using it. For those situations, Play Store also restricts itself from downloading new apps.

You just need to go to the Background data function and enable it for all the apps without any restrictions.

5. Check your network

It is rare that you will reach to this step because one of the above workarounds should be enough, but if you don’t see it solved yet, you need to check the connectivity. Try to switch to a nearby router and see if downloading an app is happening there without a problem. If yes, you know that the problem is with the connectivity itself. Reset the router.

6. Activate Access Location in Google Settings

Sometimes, the app download gets restricted due to the location and that goes unnoticed to the user, but it could be a reason. To change that, go to Settings > Location > Location Access > Enable access to my location and then activate GPS.

GPS is not needed all the time, but while fixing the Error 495, you better turn it on.

7. Reset App Preferences

This is one of the extremely useful methods to solve the Error 495 on Google Play Store. Here’s how to do that.

  • Go to Settings > Apps / Applications
  • Here, you will see the list of all applications. Tap on Menu on the top right and you will see the dropdown
  • There will be a Pop-up box with the message “Reset App Preferences” and you will need to choose that
  • Confirm that and it will reset the app preferences

Last option to fix Error 495 – Reset your Android phone!

Who’d want to reset their phone? It needs all data backed up and photos copied before you perform the reset of the phone. This is something you’d want to avoid but can you do that when nothing else is working?

Factory Data Reset Android Phone

A hard reset or factory reset of the phone removes everything and makes the phone’s software almost like a new one, in which case, you would be able to perform it normally and see everything working perfectly.

The option for resetting the phone is seen under Settings or Security Settings, depending on the phone.

Please note: After every step, restart the device because it performs, many times, like a computer where a restart helps resetting stuff.

Still, doesn’t work? Let us know in the comments and also help us make the list bigger by adding a way that you found out working but it isn’t in the given list above.
