OnePlus reveals schedule for Android 6.0 Marshmallow Upgrade plans

OnePlus has been known for quick updates for their smartphones and with the Marshmallow being launched almost 3-4 months back, it was high time that the silence was broken about the upgrade. Today OnePlus has revealed Android 6.0 Marshmallow update schedule for their devices.

Which OnePlus devices which will be receiving the update?

The OnePlus One and OnePlus 2 will be receiving the update in first Quarter of 2016, no specific date of the revealed. The first quarter is between the months of Jan to March. For the OnePlus One the Cyanogen OS will be updating to Marshmallow and the community build for the OxygenOS will be updated “when time allows”, making it obvious that it will be delayed.

The OnePlus 2 will be updated in the Q1 of 2016 as well and OnePlus confirmed that the update will be bringing the new standard API for fingerprint sensor. Commenting on the fingerprint sensor API, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, said, “We’ve heard requests for us creating an API for the current fingerprint implementation in OxygenOS, but have decided against this since we’re switching over to the standard Android M implementation soon” in a blog post. Carl Pei also mentioned that they are working hard to bring Marshmallow as soon as possible to the OnePlus X, and will update about the time frame at a later time.

The Marshmallow update will not be a hindrance to the regular updates of the Oxygen OS and the company mentioned that they will be rolling out updates as soon as possible for the OxygenOS in the meantime.

OnePlus released a new OS update for the OxygenOS 2.1.2 for the OnePlus 2 and OnePlus X users as an OTA update. This new OS came with improved UX for preview in Camera, bug fixes to System Update to improve OTA stability, etc in the OnePlus 2 and for the OnePlus X the OS update brings improvement to colour offset in HDR mode, bug fixes to System update to improve OTA stability, etc.
