Reliance fixes Jio 4G Preview Offer Bug, SIM cards getting blocked [Updated]

It was all a golden time for people who tried their luck and got the free Jio 4G Preview Offer SIM card from Reliance, even though they didn’t own a Samsung smartphone or a LYF device. The Preview Offer included free calls, data, and SMS for a period of 90 days. It was first spotted with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3.

Now, the company has stopped allowing that, though it wasn’t an intentional allowance earlier but a technical glitch, which users took advantage of and got the free Jio 4G SIM cards.

Update: We’ve learned that Reliance is not blocking all the SIM cards and when a couple of users enquired about the same with the Jio customer support, the answer was that the company is aware of the glitch and they won’t be doing anything like blocking the SIM cards, because it was a technical glitch from Jio’s side.

Now, a software update is required for anyone who is using the My Jio app and this removes that technical issue. Also, even if you see the “Get Jio SIM” option, it won’t generate an invite code anymore.

It was learned that Reliance found out about the glitch and rectified it now, and the company could block the SIM cards that have been given away already. As we write this, there are reports from a few users that they are not able to access the Jio 4G network and access the Internet, and these SIM cards were taken by showing the invite code they got on the Non-LYF and Non-Samsung devices. One of them even mentioned that Reliance has blocked the SIM card.

If you want a Reliance Jio 4G SIM card, you will now have to buy a LYF brand phone or need to have one of the Samsung smartphones that are a part of the list based on the agreement set between Reliance and Samsung.

It is also learned from one of our sources recently that Reliance is in talks with Apple to offer the Jio 4G Preview Offer SIM cards to the iPhone users, both existing and new ones.

We’ll dig into this and see if the network provider has stopped offering services to those SIM cards that were found to be taken through the trick.
