Why The 2016 MacBook Pro Lacks SD Card Slot? Here’s Why

The 2016 Edition MacBook Pro is finally here, not just one but the 2016 MacBook Pro will be available in three different variants. The Most anticipated and revolutionary OLED panel, The Touch bar, the thing that is seen above the native keyboard is now a reality. But one major deal breaker with the 2016 MacBook Pro is the lack of SD card slot. However, it still retains the 3.5mm audio jack that went missing in this year’s iPhone 7 duo.

In an interview with Apple’s Senior Vice President Phil Schiller, he details the new MacBook Pro design changes. He further reveals the reasons behind the SD card slot removal, reasons opting to keep the 3.5mm audio jack. He also admits that the lack of SD card slot has stirred a fair bit of controversy. There is no doubt the new MacBook Pro will be successful, thanks to the latest innovation in the form of Touchbar which will appeal to consumers.

There is no doubt the new MacBook Pro will be successful, thanks to the latest innovation in the form of Touchbar which will appeal to consumers. But, let’s not forget the fact that it still is not a perfect machine with the lack of features like SD card slot and USB ports for connectivity purpose.

One interesting question that consumers kept asking Apple since the day it had launched the new MacBook Pro is that, why it chopped off the 3.5mm audio jack from this year’s iPhone 7, but then retain it in this brand new Mac machine. Senior Vice President Phil Schiller responds to the same by saying, The new Mac Machine being a pro-level product from Apple, meaning users who get the new MacBook Pro with that kind of money will naturally expect the most iconic feature like the 3.5mm audio jack. Not just to connect headphones to it, but to attach studio monitors, amps, and other pros audio gear that do not have wireless solutions and need the 3.5mm jack.

When asked about the reasons behind SD card removal, Phil Schiller said:

You’ve got this thing sticking halfay out. Then there are very fine and fast USB card readers, and then you can use CompactFlash as well as SD. So we could never really resolve this – we picked SD because more consumer cameras have SD but you can only pick one. So, that was a bit of a trade-off. And then more and more cameras are starting to build wireless transfer into the camera. That’s proving very useful. So we think there’s a path forward where you can use a physical adapter if you want, or do wireless transfer.

Phill’s interview might compel the users who are on the verge of getting themselves a brand new MacBook Pro Machine. Let’s also bring this to your notice that Apple has already taken more orders for the latest MacBook Pro via its online store so far than any other MacBook Pro model it launched before.
