Xiaomi Redmi Note 3: Setup and Use Fingerprint Scanner

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 is the first phone from Xiaomi in India to have a fingerprint sensor for not just unlocking the device but for a couple other functions as well. The Redmi Note 3 comes with the fingerprint scanner on the back just below the camera, and if you are keen to know what does it do, follow the link given below.

Now that you have found what all you could do with the sensor on the Redmi Note 3, it is time to set it up and start using it. Ready? Follow the steps mentioned below.

The fingerprint setup options are located under Settings > Lock screen & password > Screen Lock, and here, under Password & fingerprint section. Tap on this to start setting up the fingerprint security.

* For you to have a fingerprint security in the Redmi Note 3, there has to be a backup password option setup, i.e. one of the options – Pattern, PIN, and Password. Once you setup one of these, you will be taken to a screen that will ask you to place your finger on the sensor.

You will need to place and lift the finger, at least, ten times so that different parts of the finger are registered and saved as a full fingerprint. Ensure that your finger is not wet while doing, because that might either delay the process or sometimes, the entire recognition doesn’t happen at all.

So, once the fingerprint registration is done, you are all set and now, can use the fingerprint to unlock the phone, and also unlock the file manager. In case you are using the Child mode, the scanner helps even there in an easy unlocking of the device and letting the phone know that it has to be in the normal mode when the unlocking is done using the fingerprint recognition.

Quite easy, isn’t it? It did take some time to figure out where the options are, but once you are in, the steps are not hard for even a new user of the MIUI 7 in Redmi Note 3.
