iOS 10 Feature: Managing App Download on iPhone using 3D Touch

Ever since Apple introduced the new iPhone with the 3D touch screen technology, there was a lot to explore for the company to allow users to do a lot using the same. 3D touch is the long press feature where pressing with different sensitivity allows you to open a menu or do something else.

With the introduction of iOS 10 at WWDC 2016, Apple has also announced a plethora of features that are based on the 3D touch technology in Apple iPhones. One of them is how you can now control the file download in iOS 10.

Earlier, cancelling a download was a problem because of the 3D touch that created a confusion and the X jiggle doesn’t show up always. Now, since there is a new option well available, here’s how to Pause and Cancel downloads, and even share them.

When downloading an app, you can just press the icon of it and then, a drop down list of options would show up as 3D touch activates. The options include Pause Download and Cancel Download, along with a Share option.

After pausing, obviously, you would be seeing the options to Resume download, alongside the other options that stay the same.

How to cancel an app download? Canceling the app download won’t happen as soon as you hit the Cancel Download option. That’s where the 3D touch function works and helps the user who might usually accidentally hit the cancel option. Here, to cancel the app download, you need to now gently tap on the option and hold it for the action to happen.

iOS 10 Developer Preview is available for download as we write this, and it will take a few months before the public release is made available, but you will see a lot of features highlighted by us to see what to expect in the iOS 10 on your iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, with the 3D Touch in action.
