Airtel rolls out 20,000 units of Aadhaar based e-KYC solution across India

Following the notification by the Department of Telecom, Government of India, Airtel India has started offering the Aadhaar based e-KYC solutions for verifying the identity and address while issuing and activating the SIM cards. This makes it easy for the users to see their SIM cards getting activated, and according to Airtel, over 50,000 subscribers per day are activating their Airtel mobile SIMs in a matter of few minutes.

In the coming months, Airtel is planning to have this e-KYC solution setup in 500000 stores across the country. With the help of e-KYC documentation, customers purchasing a new Airtel prepaid/postpaid mobile connection need to submit/verify their Biometrics (iris scan / fingerprints) at the Point of Sale.

Mr. Ajai Puri, Director – Operations (India & South Asia), Bharti Airtel, “Aadhaar based e-KYC has significantly enhanced the customer experience by enabling faster and paperless onboarding process and we have received very positive response from the customers and channel partners. We plan to deploy this solution in majority of our general trade stores, including those in rural pockets. We believe, this initiative is a great case study for Government’s Digital India vision.”

Recently, after the official Reliance Jio announcement, several Reliance Digital stores have started opting for the e-KYC option and that has eased the process of getting the SIM cards for subscribers, though the availability of the Jio SIMs has been a problem at several stores.
