Samsung Brings Wi-Fi, 4G LTE and other Smart features to older cars with Connect Auto dongle

At a time where all the tech giants are concentrating on new and upcoming cars to provide smart features, Samsung has launched, Connect Auto dongle which will be providing smart features like LTE Wi-Fi hotspot with multi-user internet access allowing users to play games and stream content. The Connect Auto Dongle will be introduced at the Mobile World Congress, MWC 2016 in Barcelona next week. The device joins the likes of Android Auto by Google and the CarPlay by Apple which offer smart features to newer cars.

With the Connect Auto Dongle by Samsung user can track and improve driving behavior along with improvement in fuel efficiency. Improvement in fuel efficiency is achieved through the use of proprietary algorithms which analyze miles travelled, time on road and price per gallon by giving real-time alerts to improve driving habits. These features being made available to older existing vechiles, the device keeps track of the cars status form the on-board diagnostic port to the recommend maintenance and repair services offered by a specialized network.

Commenting on the launch, Injong Rhee, executive vice president of the mobile communications business at Samsung Electronics, said, “We have been listening to our customers and pushing boundaries to create a connected car ecosystem that seamlessly integrates our products and partner services for a better driving experience. Through collaborations with valuable partners and experts across many industries, we are carrying out our vision of bringing IoT technology to people’s everyday lives.”

For protection Samsung provides KNOX secured solution and the device runs on Tizen OS. The company lets developers use Tizen and Samsun’s Software Development Kit or SDK which will allow developers to add additional features and services through the device. Samsung has partnered with AT&T for LTE solution along with Orange Business Services for advanced IoT/M2M expertise and services and more companies such as Amdocs, AXA, Blink by Agero, China Unicom, Cisco, Crawford & Company, Ericsson, Europcar, HERE, IBM, Jasper, Oberthur Technologies, Openbay, Tantalum and Willis Towers Watson.

The Samsung Connect Auto device will be showcased at MWC 2016 in Barcelona and the device is said to be available in second Quater of 2016 in the U.S.
