Vivo V5, V5s and V5 Plus Tips and Tricks for better usage

Vivo phones, the recent ones being Vivo V5, Vivo V5s and Vivo V5 Plus are known for the camera and music as it says from their tagline. It has a huge offline market here in India as you can see the hoardings and ads outdoors. So, as you can see the title, here you are going to be guided through all the basic features and how to set them up on your Vivo phone running on the FunTouch OS. Most of the features and setting up of the features listed will almost be the same unless you have a different version of the FunTouch OS. That being said, almost all the versions of the FunTouch OS have the same features but some of them might be located in a different location on the phone.

Below are the guides for each of the feature on your Vivo phone. Check out the table of contents if you directly want to reach to a particular tip and understand how it works.

How to setup the Fingerprint sensor

The Fingerprint sensor might not be on every of the Vivo phones out there. But, if your phone has one and you are trying to figure out to set it up, follow the guide below.

Firstly, go to Settings > Fingerprints and passwords > and here, you’ll first have to setup a screen lock before you can register your fingerprints. To set it up, select Screen lock and select the type of the lock you want to set. It will ask you for a security question to choose and you need to give your answer if you ever forget your password.

After setting the Screen lock, go back to the ‘Fingerprints and passwords’ and there you’ll find an option to add fingerprints. Click on ‘Add fingerprint’ and then, you have to tap on the fingerprint sensor that is mounted in the front in most of the Vivo phones. Lift and place your finger several times until it successfully gets registered.

Done with enrolling a fingerprint? You can again register other fingerprints which are limited to only five. You can’t register any fingerprints beyond five fingerprints. So, that’s it for the setting up of the fingerprint, read below to find more secure ways to keep your phone secure by adding a guest mode on your phone.

How to capture screenshot

To take a screenshot, just swipe from below and tap on the ‘S-capture’ toggle. As soon as you tap it, there comes a pop-up on your screen with four modes of capturing the screenshot.

If you tap on the Long screenshot, you will be able to take a scrolling shot. For example, if you want to capture a whole article, you can use this. The Funny screenshot lets you doodle or create a square pattern or crop out the doodled area. The Rectangular mode lets you crop a rectangular part of the screenshot.

The other feature of this super screenshot is that it lets you record your smartphone’s screen just by clicking on the Screen recording when you tap on the toggle. If you want a more detailed guide and instructions of what the screenshot does, go to Settings > Super screenshot > Instructions and select the mode that you want to know about.

Visitor Mode / Guest Mode

Visitor mode or Guest mode is one of the must-have features on the phone if you don’t want someone to see your personal files. Firstly, you need to have lock screen password in order to use the visitor mode. If you don’t have the password yet, jump to the first part and set it up first.

So, after successfully enabling the lock screen password, go to Settings> Security> Visitor mode, and enable the visitor mode settings up a different password. Enter the password, confirm it and there you go, you have the visitor mode enabled. If you want to protect some particular contacts and hide some apps from the visitors, just click on the selections below and you can choose them.

Eye Protect Mode

The Eye Protection mode or screen filter can be enabled from dragging down from below for the toggles and tapping on the Eye Protection toggle. However, the warm filter is set to default but if you want it warmer, you will have to go to its settings where you will also find the timer to set for the enabling of the filter.

To do that, go to Settings > Display and Brightness > Eye Protection, and in there, you can make it warmer by sliding. To set the timer, turn on the ‘Set time’ and just below that, you will be able to set the time period in which the filter will be turned on. If you don’t want to set the timer, you can just control it manually by turning it on and off whenever you want.

Smart Motion features

Smart Motion is what Gestures called on the Vivo phones mostly. So, in this Smart Motion features, there are a lot of gestures categorized based on the actions they perform. To enable the gestures you want, just go to the Settings > Smart Motion and in there, you’ll find four categories (Smart wake, Air operation, Smart turn on/off screen, Smart call) and three other toggles.

In the ‘Smart wake’, You have nine different gestures which when used perform different actions such as sliding up to unlock screen, draw ‘C’ to open the dialer, draw ‘W’ to open WhatsApp, and few other gestures as this. All these gestures only work when the screen is off.

In the Air operation, you are provided with two gestures that you can perform. They are ‘Black screen glance’ for which you will have to wave your hand across the phone from a certain height when the phone is kept on a flat surface. Similarly, there’s also ‘Air unlock’ which you can use to unlock your phone if you don’t have any lock screen password.

In the ‘Smart call’, you have different gestures which you can use to perform a few actions to pick, record or end the call. And, in the ‘Smart turn on/off screen’, you have different gestures to perform to unlock and lock the screen. The other are toggles as I mentioned above; shake to turn on the flashlight, tilt to zoom into pictures, and a ‘Smart remind’ to notify you about the unread notifications of yours.

While these are the gesture features available, you have many other features under the tag ‘Smart’ in all the Vivo phones.

One-handed mode

This mode is one of the most famous features in many of the smartphones which have a screen size of 5.5-inch and above. But, in the Vivo phones, you don’t have to worry about the display getting compact as it shrinks the keyboard and other elements of the phone which you reach with one hand with a little struggle.

So, to enable the one-handed mode, you have to go to Settings and when you scroll down, you’ll find the ‘One-handed’ option. By opening, you have the options to shrink the keyboard and the screen lock. Enabling the second toggle will let you shrink the keyboard for your convenience while using with one hand.

Now, if you enable the third toggle, you can shrink the whole screen to one side just by swiping from one of the outer sides and swiping back. After entering the one-hand mode, you can just click on the crop icon on the top left corner and resize the display of screen however you want. You can also re-adjust the position of the display.

Smart Split

This feature is the multi-window for the Vivo users. It only supports a few texting apps and only works if you are watching a video in apps such as Video, YouTube, Google Play Movies & TV. As of now, it only supports these apps when notifications pop-up from Facebook, Messages or WhatsApp.

To enable the Smart Split, go to Settings, scroll down and tap on ‘Smart split’ and turn it on. And now, when you are watching any videos on the above apps mentioned, if you get a notification from say, WhatsApp, the icon will be floating on the screen, and when you tap it, the app gets expanded on one side of the screen.

Smart click features

Smart click feature here uses the volume down button to perform a few actions such as Turn flashlight on/off, record, open camera, open Facebook, and any app. So, you have these options to use when you long press the volume down button when the screen is blank, i.e, turned off.

To enable this, go to Settings, scroll down and click on the Smart click. You can turn it on and set it to a particular action listed below. The last ‘Enable app’ option lets you select the app of your choice to open.

iManager

Here, in the iManager app, you will have everything about your phone listed here. You can manage some space by clearing the cache and other residual files that you don’t use. To clear the cache, open the app, click on ‘Space management’, and click on delete cache junk and you will have some space cleared for you. You also data monitoring in which you can see how you use the data connectivity.

And, in the App manager, you can uninstall multiple apps at a time, change the default apps for the actions you perform, manage which apps will be started when you start the device, homescreen shortcut management, and app lock for the apps that you want to lock. Sadly, the app lock feature doesn’t support the fingerprint sensor.

Down in the ‘Power manager,’ you can change the battery profile to performance mode, normal mode, and ultra-saving mode. You can also monitor which apps are using the most of your battery.

You also have calls and SMS manager in the iManager to block the calls from certain numbers and SMSs too. Just click on the ‘Rejection’ and add the numbers or clients that you want to block calls or messages from.

The last part is ‘Privacy’ in which you can store private contacts, pictures, videos, audio files, and any other files on your device. Just click on one of them and select the files that you want to hide. Whenever you need access to them, go to the ‘Privacy’ again, use your password and you have access to your files.

  3. Go to Settings Fingerprint&passwords enable privacy and app encryption after that in bottom click on “privacy and app encryption” select apps to Lock it.

    i forgetted and gone to i manager and i changed all settings in app settings then desktop settings are changed. so i cant understand my phone. plz say how to change desktop options
