Apple releases iOS 10.3 update with “Find my Airpods”, Apple ID profile section

Apple has officially released the iOS 10.3 update to the compatible devices and it has quite a good number of new features included and some improvements made to the earlier ones. As suggested in the title, one of the important inclusions is the “Find my Airpods” feature that might be much needed for those who use those Bluetooth earphones from Apple.

As we had talked about it earlier, Apple is introducing the new file system for the files on iOS and it is the Apple File System (APFS), instead of HFS+, for which we request you to first take a backup of the data on your device before you head to hit the update button. Users have not reported of any data loss or a problem while updating their iPhone, but why take the risk?

Some of the other changes in iOS 10.3 include the following

  • Wi-Fi calling for Verizon customers
  • Find my Airpods feature
  • Introducing Apple File System (APFS)
  • New app transitions
  • New Apple ID profile section
  • Better view of iCloud storage usage
  • Ability for developers to respond to App Store reviews

List of devices eligible to get iOS 10.3 update

Basically, it is all the iOS 10 devices but then, if you are still confused, here is the list of the iOS devices that are eligible to get this update. Also, adding a word of caution that if you have a previous version of iOS with the jailbreak done, don’t update if you want to retain the Jailbreak features.

  • iPad 4th gen
  • iPad Air
  • iPad Air 2
  • iPad Pro (12.9- and 9.7-inch)
  • iPad mini 2
  • iPad mini 3
  • iPad mini 4
  • iPod touch 6th
  • iPhone 5
  • iPhone 5c
  • iPhone 5s
  • iPhone SE
  • iPhone 6/6 Plus
  • iPhone 6s/6s Plus
  • iPhone 7/7 Plus

If you are confused which exact model of iPad or iPhone you are using, you can always check that by going to Settings > General > About > Model.

Any precautions to be taken before you hit the update button? Of course, take a backup of the data to either iCloud or a local backup as we had said in our guide of backing up iCloud data.

To check for the update, you will have to go to Settings and in the Software update section, the update notice would show up. It is quite an important update as it not just adds new features but also brings about some improvement to the current ones. Alongside this, it will be a busy affair for Apple users as the macOS and tvOS also got an update with notable additions in the change log.
