Apple has announced an updated iMac powered by its M6 chip, bringing faster graphics, improved on-device AI performance and upgraded connectivity to its all-in-one desktop range.
The new iMac starts at ₹1,74,900 in India and comes in seven colours: Blue, Green, Pink, Yellow, Purple, Orange and Silver. Pre-orders begin on October 28, with availability from November 6.
M6 chip with up to a 12-core CPU and GPU
The iMac is available with either a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU or a higher-end 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU. Both configurations feature a Dual 16-core Neural Engine.
Apple claims up to twice the graphics performance of M4 in selected creative workloads and up to five times faster on-device AI prompt processing. These are company benchmark results, rather than a guarantee of equivalent improvements across every application.
The desktop runs macOS 27 Golden Gate, with Apple Intelligence and Siri AI features.
24-inch 4.5K Retina display
The iMac retains its 24-inch 4.5K Retina display, offering a 4480×2520 resolution, 500 nits of brightness, P3 wide colour and True Tone. Nano-texture glass is available on the 12-core model.
The base configuration includes 16GB of unified memory and a 256GB SSD. Upgrade options differ between the two versions:
- 10-core model: Up to 24GB memory and a 1TB SSD.
- 12-core model: Up to 32GB memory and a 2TB SSD.
Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and up to four Thunderbolt ports
Both versions support Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. The 10-core model has two Thunderbolt 4-compatible USB-C ports, while the 12-core version has four Thunderbolt 4 ports.
The higher-end model includes 2.5Gb Ethernet, which is configurable on the entry model. Other features include a 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View, a six-speaker sound system and a three-microphone array.
